Pediatric Feeding Disorders/Pediatric Dysphagia
Feeding is an important aspect for thriving and growing. Whether your child is preterm or full term, a feeding challenge can be frightening and stressful. If your child seems to be “stuck” on a certain food or texture, gags, vomits, or cries when they get near a highchair, they could develop a feeding aversion. Also, If you have noted that your child has challenges transitioning from liquids to solids, has difficulty completing meals without coughing, has difficulty gaining weight, or if something simply "just doesn't feel right", it might be time to seek help.
Articulation/Phonological Disorders
Does your child demonstrate understanding of what you are communicating to them, but you or another family member have a hard time understanding their speech? It is not uncommon that a child with a speech sound disorder is understood by their close family, but others have a difficult time understanding what they are saying. If this is your child, they may benefit from an articulation/phonological evaluation to determine if your child’s speech is within their typical age development.
Late Talkers/Language Disorders/AAC
Is it hard for your child to communicate their wants and needs, resulting in frustration? Many children with or without a medical diagnosis can experience difficulty communicating. I believe that everyone deserves the chance and opportunity to express themselves. If you have concerns about your child's communication skills, I have experience in treating a variety of language disorders/delays as well as working with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Talk to your pediatrician about obtaining a language evaluation; because no one should go without a chance to express their thoughts.
